Adventure upon adventure--each more exciting than the last--follow fast as Tarzan, in the search for his lost wife, travels through Paul-ul-don--an unknown corner of Darkest Africa. It was barred from the rest of the world by stupendous mountains and vast morasses in whose slimy depths lurked monstrous reptiles. In its forests lived tree-dwelling men and beasts such as existed in pre-historic times when the world was young. "Tarzan the Terrible" is a thrilling and sensational book, and Tarzan's admirers will revel in its pages.

A follow-up adventure to Tarzan the Untamed as the Ape-man seeks to rescue Jane from the hands of the Germans during WWI. This time Jane escapes her lone German captor while in the depths of unexplored Africa only to be imprisoned by a prehistoric tribe of man-like creatures with tails in a hidden land of dinosaurs and other strange creatures. Sounds good? Well, it wasn't really that good, at least to me. Too much evolution thrown in, the language of this strange people was annoying, and Burroughs' storytelling powers weren't up to snuff. It had its moments of action and adventure with only a few twists. Over all, it was somewhat of a letdown to the big buildup in Tarzan the Untamed.Product details

Tarzan the Terrible 1st Edition Edgar Rice Burroughs 9781450517256 Books Reviews
still captivating and enjoyable as all classics are. Do yourself a favor and enjoy the rest of the series. The adventures of the ape-man are good clean fun.
Another great work of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Action packed and page turning. However, one must pay extra attention and keep up with the different names of the different characters because there are many!
I started reading Tarzan comic books as a child and still enjoy reading the original books. Burroughs has an easy to read style and uses interesting archaic language at times. This book adds flesh to the comic books of years past.
This is the second of the Tarzan books I've read, and there are many that preceded this book. It's not very politically correct these days, but it's great pulp fiction and very entertaining. There's a glossary at the end of the book that helps explain some of the names and terms in the book, I'd recommend starting with that instead of finding it after you've read the whole book like I did.
Although I am an avid Tarzan fan, this one I would have to say is not one of my favorites. Not sure we're the author was going with this one.
WHEN I WAS IN JR HIGH SCHOOL STARTED READING THE BURROUGHS BOOKS BUT SOME OF THEM WERE CENSORED BY THE SCHOOL LIBRARIES BECAUSE THEY WERE QUESTIONABLE MORALS. I PURCHASED MY OWN COPIES IN PAPERBACK TO READ AN UNCENCORED COPY. I THEN REREAD THEM WHEN I FINISHED MY LUNCH AND WAITED FOR MY NEXT CLASS TO START. LIKE THE TITLE AN OLD FRIEND. WHEN HOMELESS HAD TO SELL ALL THE BOOKS SO NOW I AM TRYING TO REBUILD MY LIBRARY AGAIN.
What an exciting conclusion to a two part story. Truly well written! In this story Tarzan is once again thrown into an epic adventure as he searches of Jane. In his search he discovers a lost world a prehistoric world, completely untouched by the civilized world. With peril at every turn and danger with each step, Tarzan once again faces unspeakable odd`s. Then to top it off, he is actually being tracked by someone from his past...friend or foe? You won't know until the exciting conclusion of the book. Who is it...? Read and find out.
I know I say this all the time, but I mean it, Burroughs is truly a master at imagination. This was truly one of his best Tarzan adventures yet.
